 ITALIAN LEXICOGRAPHY COURSE
The course will last 15 hours and will focus on the most important Italian language dictionaries. It starts of by presenting the various types of dictionaries: general use, synonyms and antonyms, etymology etc.
More focus will obviously be given to the first category of dictionaries: the macro and microstructure of the dictionary (study of its internal organisation and the different parts that make up each entry) will be looked at first, moving on to focus on the choices behind the various methods used in compiling each book.
In order to facilitate the learning process images will be shown for each dictionary via a TV projector. As for those dictionaries that are also available on CD-ROM (which is now the case for most dictionaries) you will be working straight from these versions, with the added advantage of being able to benefit from the great search functionalities they offer.
During the second part of the course you will be studying the history of dictionaries, using the examples provided for some of the major publications.
